TEACHER training on loss

Ms. Papageorge works with the principal to facilitate a workshop with the teachers on the subject of loss and the impact it has on learning. The workshop helps teachers identify critical signs and gives them tools they need on the front lines with their students.

CLASSROOM VISITS & Student Lunches

Ms. Papageorge makes her way to classrooms to allow for a more intimate setting for the students. She also makes times to have lunch with a student from each class. These lunches are a valuable time for the students to meet the author in a smaller setting and share or ask questions about authorship or loss, or simply talk about how much they love PB&J.

K-2 and 3-5 student Assemblies

The reading of My Yellow Balloon by author Tiffany Papageorge is an incredible experience. With her theater background and her passion for the topic, Tiffany delivers the story with heartfelt impact and authenticity. She also tells the "story behind the story" where she shares how she originally wrote My Yellow Balloon as a student herself for an assignment.

LESSON PLANs

Lesson plans are provided to the school at the end of the author day. They are tied to Common Core and Social Emotional Standards. The focus of this curriculum is to help children understand that they can process their emotions through art and writing. Once through the curriculum, the school can be transformed into the My Yellow Balloon Art Installation where the parents/families can walk through the artful expressions of the students' feelings.
